NEW! Playwriting with Emma Gibson:
Writing the ten-minute play

January 31 - March 7, 2026

This all-level playwriting class, taught by award-winning playwright and frequent Hedgerow artist, Emma Gibson, will explore the fundamental components of playwriting including structure, form, plot, characters and dialogue. We will look at excerpts from contemporary play scripts and spend time on in class writing exercises that will help you find your unique voice. This workshop approach will allow you to complete your own 10-minute plays by the end of the session. Suitable for novice to experienced writers.

Ages 18_ all experience levels are welcome.

Artist Bio
Emma Gibson is a British born, Philadelphia based playwright, director, actor and educator. She has an MA in Creative and Critical Writing and was the founding Producing Artistic Director of Tiny Dynamite for which she was a winner of The Knight’s Arts Challenge and won a Pew Center for Arts & Heritage Award for her production of Perfect Blue.

As a playwright, she has won the Pittsburgh Public Theatre’s new writing competition and The Louise Wigglesworth Award for playwriting excellence. She has been a finalist for many national and international competitions including the prestigious Women’s Prize for Playwriting, The Ambassador Theatre Group’s playwriting award, The O’Neill, Blue Ink, Henley Rose and The Princess Grace award, amongst others. She was recently commissioned by Climate Change Action Theatre. Her plays have been read, workshopped and produced nationally and internationally.

Emma has performed in her native UK (West End, regional, UK national tours, and at The Edinburgh Festival) and in Philadelphia where she now lives, in both classical theatre and new writing. Her directing work specializes in re-imagining classic texts from Shakespeare to Chekhov and in new writing. Emma is a frequent guest artist at Hedgerow where she directed The New Electric Ballroom by Enda Walsh, the US premiere of Stef Smith’s adaptation of Nora: A Doll’s House and, most recently, Fly Me to the Moon by Marie Jones this fall.
